Waterside Karori AFC is looking for Assistant Coaches for both the Central League (first team) and Capital One (reserve team with a focus on elite youth) teams. Rupert Crump and Ryan Edwards have been reappointed for their second seasons as Head Coach of the Central League and Capital One teams respectively.

We are interested in hearing from qualified and capable coaches looking to improve, learn, bring fresh ideas and most importantly develop a group of talented young players.

With many primary and intermediate school teachers now confirmed to be on strike this coming Friday 16th November, Waterside Karori is pleased to offer a football programme for those who are looking for an affordable, fun and friendly environment for their kids for the day.

Programme Details: A day of football skills, challenges and tournaments - all lead by our wonderful club coaches.

We are excited to confirm that Waterside Karori is one of four clubs to have received provisional approval from Capital Football to deliver the NZF Talent Development Programme in 2019.

The Talent Development Programme (TDP) sits alongside an amended Federation Talent Centre (FTC) programme for players aged between 12/13 and 17 years old. Our Swifts Talent Centre will become a single environment training programme, in partnership with Capital Football, with players no longer required to also participate in FTC as a separate programme. Players will have the ability to be selected directly from Swifts for 3-day FTC camps and to represent Capital Football in National Age Group Tournament squads and NZF squads.

Capital Football will continue to operate talent programmes for players from other clubs, but intends to back away from its own delivery of TDPs after 2019.

Our women’s team is looking for a specialist goalkeeper to take the Number 1 shirt for the remainder of the 2018 season and beyond.

We are currently leading the Women’s Premier League and are heading for promotion to the W-League for 2019. Although we are having a successful season so far with our temporary goalkeeper, we want to recruit a permanent goalkeeper as soon as possible.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced goalkeeper or an up-and-coming youth goalkeeper with who is showing promise.

We are excited to announce the appointment of Pedro Dias as a full time junior and youth coach for the club and Swifts.

Pedro is currently the Technical Director and Head Coach at Sporting FC Academy in Toronto. He will join us in early May, and will focus on the development of players aged 7 to 12 (but will be involved across all programmes).

Pedro’s appointment completes our 2018 junior/youth coaching team. Ryan Edwards continues as his role as Director of Junior and Youth Coaching, and Katie Barrott and Sam Smith in their roles as lead coaches.

About Pedro

Pedro had an extensive playing career at the top level in Portugal from 1989 to 2005. He played for Sporting Clube de Portugal (“Sporting CP”) from 1989 to 1995, before moving to another famous Portuguese club, C.D. Nacional.

Pedro started his coaching career as a youth coach with C.D. Nacional. Since then he has held roles as:- Head youth coach at New York Cosmos Soccer Club;- Development coach for the Ontario Soccer Association; and- Technical director for Benfica Soccer Schools.

In 2011 Pedro was appointed by Sporting CP to set up and lead its first international youth academy, in Toronto, Sporting FC Academy Toronto. His experience as both a player and a coach with Sporting CP (which is widely recognized as one of the top youth development clubs in the world, having produced players like Luis Figo, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo) will be hugely valuable.

Pedro is well qualified, and holds his:- Argentinian A license;- Canadian A license; and- UEFA B license.

He comes highly recommended by the Ontario Soccer Association, Sporting FC and his local community.

We are very excited for the quality of coaching, the new ideas, and the links to overseas clubs and academies that Pedro will bring to the club and Swifts this year. We hope you are too!

Pedro is set to arrive in Wellington on the 9th May and his family will join him a little later in the year.

Term 1 2018 of the Swifts Summer Programme kicks off in just over one week. It's not too late to register if you haven't already. Keep building your football skills over the summer and get ahead of the competition! The programme will offer players the option of one or two trainings a week, giving you the opportunity to choose the days that suit you best and the regularity of training you want (you are able to make your choice when registering). Term one 2018 begins the week of 5 February and finishes the week of 9 April. The full training schedule is set out below. Whether your child is a football fanatic or would just enjoy the chance to kick a ball around with friends, this is a great opportunity for them to be involved in a fun programme that gets them off the couch and onto the football field! The programme is open to boys and girls aged between 5 and 14, of all abilities. Players will be grouped by age and ability.

About the programme

The first day will include a mix of skill building activities and fun games.

The second and third days we will run our ever-popular world cup tournament. Players will be placed into small teams at the start of the first day. Each team will be given a country to represent, and tasked with designing a playing style, formation and set of goal scoring celebrations.

Teams will then compete across the two days to win the World Cup. There will be some great spot prizes up for grabs, plus prizes for the winning team.

The programme will be delivered by our qualified coaching team.

Waterside Karori AFC is pleased to announce Rupert Crump as Men’s Central League team coach.

Crumpy was a Wharfies junior, has been a player at Miramar Rangers for a number of years, and has most recently coached their Reserve team.

Over the last few seasons Crumpy has been helping to develop the region’s elite youth at Team Wellington Youth as an assistant/co-coach.

He has learnt from some of the top coaches in the country and looks forward to an exciting 2018 with the Wharfies
